Leukaemia Research

Each Year Leukaemia Research commit over £20 million towards research and over the next five years have already committed a further £80 million – a crucial step towards their goal, which is a routine cure for all blood cancers. As they receive no government funding they depend entirely on voluntary donations.

The research has four main goals:

  • To discover the cause of leukaemia and related cancers
  • To understand how blood cells become cancerous
  • To continually refine diagnostic methods for the rapid and accurate assessment of disease
  • To devise new treatments for the cancers of the blood

Leukaemia Research also supports doctors and scientists in hospitals and academic institutions throughout the UK, funding a wide range of projects from basic laboratory research to clinical trials with patients.

In Scotland fundraising has just been completed to build a new Leukaemia Research Centre, which will be based at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow. The state-of-the-art facilities will bring together the leading researchers on a single site, making it a major international centre of excellence for leukaemia research.

Apart from the extensive research that Leukaemia Research facilitates they also provide information to nurses working with leukaemia patients through their Nursing Leukaemia campaign as well as producing Patient Information booklets for patients and their families.

In order to help Leukaemia Research you need to get people to sponsor you to ride Pedal for Scotland. Your entry donation covers the cost of organising the event but all sponsorship money goes to helping this charity. So why don't you turn your miles into money? - A pedal for Scotland Sponsorship form will be sent out in your entry pack.
